On the 1st of June 2008 within the bounds of city family holiday «Day of Sweet Tooth» an outstanding event took place: experienced masters-carvers created a unique statue of Chocolate Griffin before numerous viewers` eyes. Griffin is one of the most memorable symbols of Saint-Petersburg and at the same time it is the logo of Confectionery factory named after N. K. Krupskaya which played the role of organizer of this unusual project.
Weight of the winged lion was 974,5 kg and this fact was certified by a special committee. Independent experts were watching that only real chocolate was used for Chocolate Griffin creation. Earlier made by «Record Book of Russia» expertise confirmed that before that moment there were no chocolate sculptures in Russia with weight of more than 700 kg. Now Confectionery factory is expecting the official confirmation of record breaker status in nomination «The biggest (the heaviest) chocolate sculpture» from editorial board of «Record Book of Russia».
The process of statue creation attracted a great interest of citizens who visited «Day of Sweet Tooth». Neither children nor their parents remained indifferent to sweet smell of chocolate spreading throughout Alexandrovskiy park. Special workpieces — chocolate blocks were delivered to specially organized area of Krupskaya factory. Then these blocks were melted into one unit with the help of heat processing. It took three hours to carve a statue out of chocolate unit. Ten masters of Ice Studio were working simultaneously on chocolate masterpiece creation. As it turned out and as they confessed later — chocolate goes even better with statues creation than ice.
During the process of Chocolate Griffin figure creation the host entertained the guests of holiday. All visitors who took an active part in competitions with chocolate subject got sweet presents from Krupskaya factory. Besides, chocolate post-office was working at the ground: all who wished could offer their congratulations to Krupskaya factory on its 70-year anniversary which it celebrates this year. About hundred of people wrote warm words to the address of our enterprise which not only gained authority among inhabitants of St. Petersburg but also with the lapse of time became a peculiar visiting card of Saint-Petersburg. As a return gratitude sweet gifts from Krupskaya factory were given to all people who congratulated the factory. All together about a ton of real chocolate and about 350 kg. of sweet products from Krupskaya were eaten in the course of this holiday.
After the statue was finished the Griffin was not only weighed but also thoroughly measured in the presence of independent experts. Its height was 193 cm., the width was 84 cm., the length was 155 cm. Then all who attended got the possibility to regale themselves with the biggest chocolate statue in Russia. Organizers counted that about 3,5 thousand of people took part in this process. The statue has been eaten for two hours: all who have sweet tooth got a piece of Chocolate Griffin.
